How to Access NDIS Funding: A Quick Guide
Accessing funding through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) can be a vital step for individuals with disabilities to receive the support they need. Here's a simple guide on how to access NDIS funding:
1. Check Eligibility
To access NDIS funding, you must meet certain eligibility criteria:
- You must be under the age of 65.
- You must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or hold a Protected Special Category Visa.
- You need to have a permanent disability that significantly impacts your ability to perform everyday activities.
2. Complete the Access Request Form
If you believe you're eligible, the next step is to complete the Access Request Form. This form asks for information about your disability and how it affects your daily life. You can get this form:
- Online on the NDIS website.
- By calling the NDIS contact centre.
- Through local NDIS offices or partners.
3. Provide Supporting Evidence
You will need to provide evidence from a health professional (e.g., doctor, specialist) confirming your disability and how it impacts your daily life. This evidence is essential for the NDIS to determine your eligibility.
4. Submit the Form and Evidence
Once you’ve filled out the Access Request Form and gathered all required documentation, submit it to the NDIS. You can submit this online, by mail, or through your local NDIS office.
5. NDIS Decision
The NDIS will assess your request, which can take up to 21 days. If you're eligible, you will receive an invitation to create your NDIS plan. If you're not eligible, you will be informed, and you may request a review.
6. Develop Your NDIS Plan
Once approved, you will work with an NDIS planner or a Local Area Coordinator (LAC) to create your personalized plan. This plan outlines your goals, the support you need, and how funding will be used to help you achieve these goals.
7. Start Accessing Services
After your plan is approved, you can start using your NDIS funding to access services such as therapy, personal support, assistive technology, and more. You can choose providers based on your needs and preferences.
